Famous Twins (Sports)

Sets of twins or individuals with twins who are athletes of note with the last names beginning with the letter A to the letter J. Please feel free to update if you have any additions to this list. (birthdates refer to dates of birth of the multiples if known) Our sports lists include the 12 sets of twins to both play in the NFL, nine sets of twins to both play in MLB, five sets of twins to both play in the NHL and five sets of twins to both play in the NBA

A

  • Adams, Gary and Gene - (born Sept. 4, 1939) - Gary is the winningest coach in UCLA baseball history, guiding the Bruins to close to 1,000 victories in 30 years at his alma mater (1975-2004). He and his twin brother, Gene, formed the UCLA middle infield during the 1960 season and Gene's son, Manny, played for his uncle at UCLA. Gary Adams coached more than 40 collegiate baseball players who made it to the majors
  • Alson, Rafer - (born July 24, 1976) - NBA player (Milwaukee, Toronto and Houston) who is nicknamed 'Skip to my Lou'. Has a twin sister. Grew up in Queens, NY
  • Andretti, Mario and Aldo - (born Feb. 28, 1940) - Famous race car drivers. Mario is the only race care driver ever to win the Indianapolis 500 (1969), the Daytona 500 (1967), and the Formula One World Championship. Mario's two sons, Michael and Jeff, also both competed in the Indy 500 as has one of his grandsons, Marco. Aldo was also an established driver but had to retire following a serious accident in 1959. His two sons, John and Adam, have also raced professionally
  • Arroyo, Carlos and Alberto - (born July 30, 1979) - Carlos completed his sixth NBA season in 2007 and has played for the Orlando Magic, Detroit Pistons, Utah Jazz, Denver Nuggets and Toronto Raptors during his career. He is considered one of the all-time best NBA players of Puerto Rican descent. His twin brother Alberto plays basketball professionally in Puerto Rico.
  • Ashburn, Richie and Donna - (born March 19, 1927) - Richie (birth name was Don) was a Hall-of-Fame MLB Infielder, primarily with the Philadelphia Phillies. Hit .308 during a 15-year career that included five All-Star Game appearances. Passed away in 1997. Had a twin sister Donna, who preceded him in death
  • Augustyniak, Julie and Nancy - (born Feb. 1, 1979) - Professional women's soccer (WUSA). Played together collegiately at Clemson and then professional together in the WUSA for Atlanta. Julie married an identical twin, Chris Tuff, in 2007 and still plays for a team in Atlanta while her sister now plays for a team in Fort Collins, Colorado

B

  • Ball, David and Matthew - (born Jan 4, 1981) Defensive lineman who starred collegiately together at UCLA. David went on to the NFL and has played four seasons of pro football, most recently with the Tennessee Titans
  • Barber, Me'Lisa and Mikele - (born Oct. 4, 1980) - Former collegiate Track & Field champions at the University of South Carolina

  • Barber, Tiki and Ronde - (born April 7, 1975) - Probably the best known NFL twins. Tiki Barber was a running back with the New York Giants (1997-2006), while Ronde Barber is a defensive back with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1997-present). Tiki had his best professional season in 2005 with 1860 yards rushing, 2nd in the NFL, then followed it with 1662 yards rushing in 2006, 4th-best in the NFL, before retiring at the age of 30. Ronde had two TD's in a game on Sept. 22, 2006 vs. the Eagles to tie an NFL record. They both have experienced off-the-field NFL success as writers (the Barber Twins co-wrote three children's books together), actors and TV and radio work. Tiki began broadcasting for NBC-TV beginning in the 2007 season
  • Bell, Mark and Mike - NFL-playing teammates whose careers were interrupted by off-the-field problems. Mark was a defensive end for Seattle from 1979-1982, and with Baltimore and Indianapolis in 1983 and 1984. Mike was a defensive end with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1979-1985 and then again from 1987-1991. But both Bells were sent to prison in 1985 for cocaine possession, causing Mike to be suspended from the league in 1986

  • Belle, Albert and Terry - (born Aug. 25, 1966) - Albert had 381 career homers in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Cleveland Indians. Terry is an agent
  • Blackmon, Stefanie and Tiffanie - (born May 16, 1983) - Women's basketball players who were both members of the 2005 Baylor University women's basketball NCAA championship team. Stefanie was one of the stars of the team
  • Bosworth, Korey and Kyle - (born Nov. 21, 1986) - Defensive players for UCLA football team. Nephews of former NFL linebacker, Brian Bosworth. Kyle is a junior linebacker and Korey a redshirt sophomore defensive end
  • Brands, Terry and Tom - (born Apr. 9, 1968) - Wrestling greats who are both members of the United States National Wrestling Hall of Fame (Terry was inducted in 2006 and Tom in 2001). Terry is a two-time World Champion and Olympic Bronze Medalist (2000) who now coaches for USA Wrestling. Tom is a former Olympic Gold Medalist (1996) and World Champion and is now the head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa
  • Brazenton, Dewon and Fewon - (born June 16, 1980) - Dewon is a Major League Baseball pitcher who compiled an 8-25 career record with a 6.38 ERA in parts of five seasons (through end of 2006 season). His twin brother, Fewon, had CP and was confined to a wheelchair before tragically passing away at the age of 22 in December, 2002, just a few months after Dewon's MLB debut
  • Brown, Elmer and Delmer - Teamed with fellow twins Blaine and Wayne Rideout to set world record in sprint medley track & field relay in 1938. Delmer was a long-time coach and trainer at East Texas State, Texas Tech and Baylor. He was also head trainer at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Elmer served as trainer at TCU for 28 years and was an Olympian as both an athlete and trainer (1956)
  • Bryan, Bob and Mike - (born April 29, 1978) - Mirror-image identical twins who have been the top-ranked men's tennis doubles team in the world off-and-on since 2004. Have won 42 men's double titles together, including five Grand Slam titles (Wimbledon 2006, Australia 2006 & 2007, U.S. Open 2005, French 2003) and close to 50 titles each as of mid-2008 (Bob has five Grand Slam titles in mixed doubles and Mike has one)
  • Bullocks, Daniel and Josh - (born Feb. 28, 1983) - Became the 11th set of twins to both play in the NFL when Daniel played the 2006 season for the Detroit Lions as a strong safety. Josh left college a year earlier (both twins went to the University of Nebraska) than his twin and played the 2005 and 06 seasons with the New Orleans Saints as a free safety
  • Burge, Heidi and Heather - (born Nov. 12, 1971) - Were once the world's tallest female twins at 6'4 3/4" each before being unseated by the Recht Twins of Oregon. Heidi and Heather played collegiate basketball at the University of Virginia, where they led the Lady Cavs to three Final Four Appearances. Heidi played briefly in the WNBA and the story of the Burges was made into a Disney Channel movie in 2002, Double Teamed

C

  • Cannon, Joe and Jon - (born Jan. 1, 1975) - Joe is a two-time MLS Goalkeeper of the Year who has been playing soccer professionally since 1998. Jon was drafted in the 1993 MLB Draft by the Chicago Cubs. He played most recently in the Arizona Diamondbacks system and may now be out of baseball
  • Canseco, Jose and Ozzie - (born July 4, 1962) - Jose Canseco is probably the most successful baseball player ever who was part of a twin combination where both twins made it to the majors. While his twin brother Ozzie played just 34 games in the majors and never hit a homer, Jose retired following the 2001 season with 462 homers, 22nd on the all-time list at the time. Jose played his first eight seasons in the majors with Oakland and ranks as that teams' third-leading home-run hitter in history behind Mark McGwire and Reggie Jackson. Ozzie is now a player agent. Jose and Ozzie were arrested together in the winter of 2001 in an altercation in Miami. Jose's allegations of steroids abuse in baseball following his retirement has made him a controversial figure well after his playing days were over
  • Cash, Keith and Kerry - The Cash twins both played at tight end in the NFL, playing for five different teams from 1991-1996. Keith Cash was with Pittsburgh in 1991 and Kansas City from 1992-1996. Kerry Cash played for Indianapolis (1991-1994), Oakland (1995) and Chicago (1996)
  • Cliburn, Stan and Stu - (born Dec. 19, 1956) - The Cliburns both played for the California Angels. Stan played first, as a hitter for one season in 1980. Stew was more successful, playing three seasons as a pitcher including a very successful campaign for the Halos in 1985 in which he compiled a 9-3 record and 2.09 ERA. They continue to work together, Stan manages the Triple A Rochester Red Wings and Stu is the pitching coach
  • Collins, Jarron and Jason - (born Dec. 2, 1978) - The two were collegiate stars together at Stanford and were NBA rookies during the 2001-02 season. Jarron has played all eight of his NBA seasons with the Utah Jazz while Jason played six years with the New Jersey Nets before being traded twice in 2008, first to Memphis and then to Minnesota. Jason is 7'0" and Jarron is 6'11". On January 29, 2007, the two started against one another as the Nets played in Utah
  • Connolly, Merja and Jim - A rarity among sporting twins, male/female twins who were each established athletes. Merja helped lead the UCLA Women's Volleyball team to the 1984 NCAA Championship, being named to the All-Tournament team. Jim won the decathlon at the 1987 NCAA Track & Field Championships. Their parents met at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne where they were each gold medalists in track and field - Harold Connolly (USA) in the hammer and Olga Fikotova (Czechoslovakia) in the shot put
  • Cooper, Henry and George - (born May 3, 1934) - Henry Cooper is a former European Heavyweight Boxing Champion and two-time BBC Sports Personality of the Year winner who is best remembered for knocking down then Cassius Clay (and later known as dad of twins Muhammad Ali) in a non-title fight in 1963 (Ali's last fight before defeating Sonny Liston to become heavyweight champ). They also met in a title bout in 1966 which Ali also won. Henry has an identical twin brother, George
  • Cooper, Jacqui, Fiona and Sarah - (born Jan. 6, 1973) - Jacqui is an Aerial Freestyle Skiing World Champion from Australia and part of a fraternal set of female triplets. She was a favorite in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics but failed to medal
  • Czisny, Alissa and Amber - (born June 25, 1987) - Fraternal twins, Amber and Alissa are both world-class competitive figure skaters although Alissa has received more honors, finishing third at the 2007 U.S. Championships. She is also a former U.S. Collegiate Champion at Bowling Green State University where both twins attend school

D-E

  • Darling, Devard and Devaughn - (born Apr. 16, 1982) - Highly decorated prep football players from Houston who both signed to play college football at Florida State. Devaughn died tragically on Feb. 26, 2001 during off-season conditioning drills. Devard transferred to Washington State University to continue his collegiate football career and then played the 2004-06 NFL seasons with the Baltimoire Ravens
  • Davis, Glenn and Ralph - (born Dec. 26, 1924) - "Mr. Outside", Glenn Davis was one of the most reknowned players in college football history, winning the Heisman Trophy at Army in 1946 and helping to lead Army to three straight national championships and setting numerous college football records two of which he still held at the time of his death at age 80 in 2005. He would go on to win an NFL title for the L.A. Rams in a pro career that was shortened by injury. His twin brother Ralph attended West Point at the same time but did not play football. Ralph was the older twin by 90 minutes and preceded his twin brother in death
  • de Boer, Frank and Ronald - (born May 23, 1970) - Dutch National Team soccer players. They played together on both the 1994 and '98 Netherlands World Cup teams
  • Doyle, Brian and Blake - (born Jan. 26, 1955) - Twin brothers from a baseball family, Brian played just parts of four seasons in the majors but is remembered by New York Yankees fans for his heroics in the 1978 World Series. His twin brother Blake played nine seasons in the minors. The Doyle Twins older brother, Denny, played nine seasons in the majors. Together, the Doyle twins founded a successful baseball coaching academy, Doyle Baseball, after retirement. Blake is still that organization's CEO while Brian is now a minister in Florida
  • Dunn, Jerry and Terry - (born May 6, 1953) - Terry is the head coach in men's basketball at Dartmouth College. Jerry formerly was the head coach at Penn State and now serves as the assistant at the University of Michigan
  • Edwards, Marshall and Mike - (born Aug. 27, 1952) - Mike Edwards had a couple of successful seasons in MLB for Oakland, but made it to the bigs first with Pittsburgh in 1977. Marshall, like his brother, was more of a speedster than a power-hitter. He played three mostly unspectacular seasons with Milwaukee from 1981-1983. They also had a younger brother named Dave Edwards who played five seasons in the big leagues
  • Elway, John and Jana- (born June 28, 1960) - John Elway is an NFL Hall of Fame quarterback whose twin sister Jana was unable to witness his enshrinement into the Hall of Fame in 2004, passing away in 2002 to lung cancer. John was the quarterback for the Denver Broncos from 1983-98, leading his team to five Super Bowls, winning the titles in his last two years in the NFL in 1997 and 98. He played in nine Pro Bowls and had the best winning-percentage of any quarterback in NFL history.
  • Epstein, Theo and Paul - Theo was named the GM of the Boston Red Sox in Nov., 2002 at the tender age of 28 years and 11 months. His brother is a girls soccer high school in Brookline, MA. Their mom is also a twin and they are the grandsons of Phillip Epstein (co-writer of movie, Casablanca, with his twin brother Julius)
  • Evers-Swindell , Georgina and Caroline - (born Oct. 10, 1978) - New Zealand identical twin sisters who the Gold Medal in the Athens Olympics in 2004 in the Double Sculls Women's Rowing Event. Two-time World Champions in Doubles Rowing who were also co-named 2005 Rowing Female Crew of Year by the International Rowing Federation

F-G

  • Fair, Lorrie and Ronnie - (born Aug. 5, 1978) - Professional women's soccer players. Lorrie was on USA National Team and was a member of the 2000 silver medal-winning USA Team. Lorrie played collegiately at UNC and Ronnie at Stanford
  • Fathauer, Daryl and Derek - (born Jan. 20, 1986) - Amateur golfers who competed together at the University of Louisville. Derek won the 2006 Big East Men's Golf Championships and Daryl captured medalist honors in 2007 at the same event.
  • Ferraro, Chris and Peter - (born Jan. 24, 1973) - NHL players who became first set of identical twins to play on same team when they each played for the New York Rangers during the 1995-96 season. They scored a combined 16 goals in their NHL careers
  • Florie, Bryce and Bryan - (born May 21, 1970) - Bryce Florie played parts of eight seasons in MLB (1994-2001) as a relief pitcher. His brother never played baseball professionally
  • Ford, Cheryl and Daryl - (born June 6, 1981) - Cheryl is two-time WNBA All-Star was all-WAC basketball player at Louisiana Tech. Twins biological father is NBA great Karl Malone
  • Frazee, Megan, Molly and Moriah - (born March 29, 1987) - The only set of triplets playing NCAA Division I Women's Basketball together, the Frazee triplets completed their sophomore seasons in 2007 as the three leading scorers for the Liberty University Lady Flames. Megan was the 2nd leading scorer in the conference with 17.2 points per game while also averaging 8.5 boards per game and was invited to the 2007 USA Women's National Team Trials
  • Gait, Gary and Paul - (born Feb. 1, 1979) - Famous lacrosse players - Gary is considered one of the best players in the sport's history. They are from Victoria, B.C. Paul retired from the sport in 2002. Gary also is a women's asst. lacrosse coach at the Univ. of Maryland
  • Galaxy, Khaosai and Kaokor - (born May 15, 1959) - Twin boxers from Thailand who were both World Champions, the only set of boxing twins to ever earn that dual honor. Khaosai was the WBA Super Flyweight Champion from 1984-92, retiring after 19 successful defenses of his title. He retired with a 50-1 career record in the ring (his only loss coming early in his career) and was elected to the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1999. Kaokor was the WBA Bantamweight Champion twice, defeating Wilfredo Velasquez on May 9, 1988 only to lose the title three months later to Sung Kil Moon on Aug. 14, 1988. He became champion again on July 9, 1989 in a rematch with Moon but again lost in his first title defense later in 1989
  • Geiger, Matt and Mark - (born Sept. 10, 1969) - Matt Geiger enjoyed a 10-year NBA career from 1992-2002. He shaved his head late in his career in honor of Mark's battle with cancer (now in remission)
  • Golsen, Gene and Tom - The only set of twins to both play together on the same NFL team, the 1926 Louisville Colonels squad, a team which played just four games in the NFL before folding
  • Gorgen, Scott and Matt - (born Jan. 27, 1987) - Collegiate baseball pitchers who have excelled at different campuses. Scott is a two-time All Big West honoree at UC Irvine and was named a Freshman All-American in 2006. He tossed four straight complete game victories late in the 2007 season to lead his Anteaters to their first-ever College World Series trip and was 13-3 with a 2.85 ERA during his sophomore season. Matt ended his sophomore year as Cal's saves leader with nine while adding a 3-5 record and 2.51 ERA
  • Graffin, Andrew and Allen - (born Dec. 20, 1977) - Track distance runners from England. Andrew competed for England in the 2000 Olympic Games. Both have run sub-4 minute miles
  • Graham, Joey and Stevie- (born June 11, 1982) - The Graham Twins became the 5th set of twins to both play in the NBA when they made their pro debuts during the 2005-06 seasons. Both twins played collegiately at Central Florida and Oklahoma State University (transferring after two years in college). Joey was taken with the 16th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors and has played two full seasons in the NBA. Stevie was undrafted and has played 36 games in parts of two NBA seasons with four different teams, Chicago, Cleveland, Houston and Portland
  • Grant, Horace and Harvey - (born July 4, 1965) - One of highest-scoring twins in NBA history. Horace played 17 seasons in the NBA, earning 4 World Championship rings, and scoing 12, 996 points while adding 9,443 rebounds. Harvey played 11 seasaons and totaled 7,781 points with 3,436 rebounds
  • Griffin, Michael and Marcus - (born Jan. 4, 1985) - Twin brothers who played collegiate football together at the University of Texas, where they helped lead the Longhorns to the 2006 National Championship. Michael was the first round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans and now starts at defensive back for the Titans. Marcus finished his college career a year after his twin brother (he redshirted one year) and was a free agent with the Minnesota Vikings but was cut during the pre-season and has yet to play in the NFL
  • Grimes, Ray and Roy - (born Sept. 11, 1893) - Roy just played the 1920 season for the NY Giants, but Ray fared a little better, playing a total of six seasons as a power-hitting first-baseman and had a career batting average of .329. His most successful season was 1922 when he hit .354 for the Cubs with 45 doubles, 12 triples, 14 homers and 99 RBI. In 1926, Ray was a teammate of Bubber Jonnard with the Philadelphia Phillies, marking the only time in MLB history that two different sets of twins played together on the same team
  • Gullikson, Tim and Tom - (born Sept. 8, 1951) - Tennis players who experienced success in both doubles (10 titles together, runners-up at Wimbledon in 1983) and singles. Tim passed away due to a brain tumor on May 3, 1996 and Tom founded the Tim and Tom Gullikson Foundation to support victims of brain tumors. After finishing their playing careers, both twins turned to coaching, Tim used to coach Pete Sampras and Tom coached or captained both a U.S. Olympic Team (2004) and Davis Cup (1995-99)

  • Hamm, Morgan and Paul - (born Sept. 24, 1982) - Two-time Olympic gymnasts who were on the U.S. silver medal-winning men's team in the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Paul won the gold medal in the All-Around Men's competition, although the scoring was disputed in a controversy immediately following the announcement of the results (it was not overturned). He was the first American male ever to win Olympic gold in the all-around. They returned to active competition in 2007 and hope to make the 2008 Olympics in Beijing
  • Harrison, Alvin and Calvin - (born Jan. 20, 1974) - U.S. Olympic Track & Field Gold Medalists (Alvin in both 1996 and 2000, Calvin in 1996) who overcame adversity of homelessness to earn Olympic gold and then later saw success tainted with suspensions from international competition due to use of illegal substances
  • Hauser, Brad and Brent - (born March 28, 1977) - Distance runners, Brad ran 5000 meters for USA at 2000 Olympics
  • Hayes, Jarvis and Jonas - (born Aug. 9, 1981) - Jarvis and Jonas played collegiate basketball together at Western Carolina (one year) and then the University of Georgia (two years) where NCAA troubles for the Bulldogs led Jarvis to declare early for the NBA draft. He was selected by the Washington Wizards in the 2003 NBA Draft and has played four seasons in the NBA. Jonas is as assistant basketball coach at South Carolina State University
  • Head, Samantha and Johanna - (born Feb. 28, 1973) - Women's professional golfers from England
  • Hobgood, C.J. and Damien - (born July 6, 1979) - Professional surfers
  • Hochschorner, Pavol and Peter - (born Sept. 7, 1979) - Olympic Canoeing - Slovakian twins who teamed to win gold at 2000 Olympics
  • Hodges, Roneeka and Lewis, Doneeka - (born July 19, 1982) - Women's basketball players who played collegiately together at LSU for three years before Roneeka transferred to Florida State for her senior season. Roneeka played three seasons in the WNBA for the Houston Comets before going to training camp in 2008 with Phoenix where she was briefly reunited with her twin sister Doneeka (who had changed her last name after marrying). Doneeka played three years in the WNBA with Los Angeles but both twins were cut during camp in '08 and didn't get to play together in the regular season
  • Hollonbock, Scot and Sean - (born Nov. 5, 1969) - Scott won 2 gold medals at 1992 Paralympics and set world records in 800 and 1500 meters
  • Howard, Ryan and Corey - (born Nov. 19, 1979) - Ryan Howard was voted the 2006 National League Most Valuable Player after leading MLB with 58 homers and hitting .318 while adding 149 RBI. He is 6'4, 255 pounds and his twin brother, Corey, is 6'6", 260 pounds. Both twins were in the marching band together in their St. Louis area high school and Corey played basketball and went on to get a law degree
  • Holmes, Chavis and Travis - Basketball-playing twin brothers who apparently set the Division One combined scoring record for twins at VMI on January 24, 2009 when they passed the 3,260 mark for their individual careers
  • Hughes, Kim and Kerry - (born June 4, 1952) - 6'11" basketball players who both played at the Univ. of Wisconsin in the early 1970's. Kim was all Big-10 and later played 6 years in the ABA and NBA before coaching for both Denver and the Clippers
  • Hunter, Bill and George - (born July 8, 1886) - George Hunter played Major League Baseball two years for Brooklyn in 1909 and 1910 while Bill only played one season, in 1912 with Cleveland

I-J

  • Johnson, Tony and Teresa - (born March 12, 1982) - Outstanding former athletes at Penn State University who come from a rich family tradition of athletes. Tony led the 2004 football team in receptions and Teresa was a starter on the Penn State softball team. Their older brother Larry is Penn State's all-time leading rusher and NFL rushing leader (K.C. Chiefs) and their father Larry is a Defensive Line coach for Penn State
  • Jonnard, Bubber and Claude - (born Nov. 23, 1887) - The Jonnards were a batter-pitcher baseball twin combination. Bubber (a catcher) made it to the bigs first, playing for Chicago (AL) in 1920 and four teams total in a six-year career. Claude (the pitcher) specialized as a relief pitcher in a six-year career that began with the New York Giants in 1921. He led the majors in games played in 1923 with the Giants (45) and also led in saves both in 1922 and 1923 (5 each season). He also played in three World Series including the 1922 series where his team defeated Babe Ruth's Yankees
  • Josephson, Sarah and Karen - Olympic Synchronized Swimmers who were 1988 Silver Medalists and 1992 Gold Medalists. Sarah also won two individual Olympic medals and Karen won one individual medal

K-L

  • Koslowski, Dennis and Duane - Each won gold medals in 1988 Olympics in Greco-Roman Wrestling
  • Lavrinovic, Ksystof and Darjus - (born Nov. 1, 1979) - Lithuanian basketball players who helped lead their country to the quarterfinals of the 2006 World Championships. They are each a little under 7 feet tall
  • Lewis, Rashard and Kristen - (born Aug. 8, 1979) - NBA All-Star forward for the Seattle Supersonics. His twin sister Kristen also played high school basketball in Houston. Filed for free agency following 2007 season in which he averaged a career-best 22.4 points per game and then signed with the Orlando Magic, where he played the 2007-08 season
  • Lidle, Cory and Kevin - (born March 22, 1972) - Cory had a career 82-72 baseball record in the majors with seven teams. His twin brother Kevin was a catcher and 1992 Olympian who made it to the Triple A level for four different organizations. He was playing for the independent league Bridgeport Bluefish before retiring from baseball following the 2005 season. Cory's life tragically ended on Oct. 11, 2006 when he piloted a small plane and crashed into a New York City high-rise building
  • Little, Jacqui and Skylar - (born March 10, 1978) - Professional women's soccer players (WUSA). Played together for Washington. Jacqui played collegiately at Santa Clara and Skylar played at UCLA
  • Lopez, Brook and Robin - (born April 1, 1988) - 7-foot basketball players who competed as freshmen at Stanford University in 2006-07. Robin set a Cardinal freshman record for blocks in a season and the twins combined to average more than 20 points and 11.5 rebounds per game. They each went to the NBA after their sophomore seasons with Brook being drafted 10th overall by the New Jersey Nets and Robin being drafted 15th overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. Brook gets more playing time than Robin, but they became the sixth set of twins to both play in the NBA during the 2008-09 season
  • Lundquist, Henrik and Joel - (born March 2, 1982) - One of five sets of twin brothers to each play in the NHL, the Lundquist twins are uinque in that Henrik is a goalie (New York Rangers) and Joel a center. Henrik was a finalist for the NHL's top goalie each of his first two seasons in the NHL and was also named to the All-Rookie team in 2006. He was also named as one of People Magazine's World Most Beautiful People in 2006. Joel faced Henrik on the ice on Dec. 14, 2006 to mark the third set of twins to play against each other in an NHL game

  • Maguire, Lisa and Leona - Female golfers from Ireland who played in Northern Ireland Ladies Open at age 12. Lisa won 2006 World Under-12 Championships at Pinehurst while Leona finished third in that event
  • Maher, Phil and Steve - (born May 10, 1957) - Skiing greats, Phil and Steve went 1-2 in slalom at 1984 Winter Olympics
  • Mantle, Ray and Roy - (born Feb. 22, 1936) - Younger brothers of Baseball Hall-of-Famer Mickey Mantle. Both played minor-league baseball but never made it to the big leagues. Roy died of cancer in 2001 in Las Vegas where his brother Ray still lives
  • Marion, Shawn and Shawnette - (born May 7, 1978) - Four-time NBA All-Star who is one minute older than his twin sister. Both Shawn and Shawnette reside in Las Vegas and Shawn has played his entire NBA career with the Phoenix Suns
  • Marshall, Sean and Brian - (born August 30, 1982) - Baseball left-handed pitchers who both were drafted very high in the 2003 MLB draft as college pitchers at Virginia Commonwealth University. Sean pitched for the Chicago Cubs in both 2006 and 2007. Brian never made it to the majors and was playing independent (Frontier League) baseball in 2007.
  • McDonald, Devon and Ricardo - (born Nov. 8, 1969) - Linebackers in the NFL, Devon McDonald played for Indianapolis from 1993-1995 (where he was a teammate of fellow twin Kerry Cash), and Arizona in 1996. Ricardo McDonald was with the Cincinnati Bengals (1992-1997) and the Chicago Bears (1998-1999)
  • McGee, Paula and Pam - (born Dec. 1, 1962) - Women's Basketball players who played collegiately at USC, winning two NCAA Championships, and then later Internationally (Paula) and in the WNBA (Pamela). Paula became an ordained minister after retiring from basketball
  • McGuire (McCrary), Billy and Benny - (born Dec. 7, 1946) - Former pro wrestlers and world's heaviest twins. Billy died in 1979 and Benny died in 2001
  • McQuistan, Paul and Pat - (born April 30, 1983) - Joined the exclusive list of twins to both play in the NFL (12th set) when both offensive lineman twins made NFL debuts during 2006 season. Paul played 15 games for the Oakland Raiders and Pat played on Dec. 31, 2006 in the last game of the regular season as his Dallas Cowboys played the Detroit Lions. Both are listed at 6-6, 315 pounds
  • McKeever, Marlin and Mike - (born Jan. 1, 1940) - College/NFL stars and sometimes actors until Mike died in a car accident in 1967. Marlin was 4th overall pick in 1961 draft and long-time NFL player. Mike did not play pro ball due to recurring head injuries
  • McKenzie, Raleigh and Reggie- Twins with the longest combined tenure in the NFL. Raleigh was an offensive lineman (guard and center) for 15 seasons. Most of that time was with the Washington Redskins (1985-1994), but he also saw action with Philadelphia (1995-1996), San Diego (1997-1998) and Green Bay (1999). He also was the first twin to be a part of a Super Bowl-winning NFL team, winning rings with Washington following the 1987 and 1991 seasons. Reggie was a linebacker with the Los Angeles Raiders from 1985-1988, and again in 1992 with the San Francisco 49ers
  • Meche, Donnie and Lonnie - (born Oct. 26, 1974) - Identical twins who are both world-class Thoroughbred Horse Jockeys
  • Miller, Coco and Kelly- (born Sept. 6, 1978) - WNBA players who played collegiately together at the University of Georgia. Coco has played her entire 8-year pro basketball career in Washington while Kelly has played for three different teams. They have scored more than 3200 combined points in the WNBA
  • Mimbs, Mark and Mike - (born Feb. 13, 1969) - Twin baseball players who were both selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 1990 draft. Mark was 51-48 in his minor league career but did not make it to the majors. He did pitch professionally in Japan. Mike was 12-19 in three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies
  • Minor, Ryan and Damon - (born Jan. 5, 1974) - Damon was a left-hitting first baseman for the San Francisco Giants. After a couple of brief appearances with San Francisco in 2000 and 2001, he became a much more regular player in the 2002 season, when he had 10 home runs in 83 games. Ryan was a righty and played for Baltimore during the 1998, 1999 and 2000 seasons, and for Montreal in 2001
  • Mizrachi, Eric and Michael - (born Jan. 5, 1981) - Professional poker players from Florida. Eric, aka "The Grinder" was rated as one of the top poker players in the world in 2006 with two World Poker Tour victories. He twice has won a major tournament to earn more than a million dollars as his prize. Their older brother, Robert, is also one of the top-rated players and won a tournament at the 2007 World Series of Poker to earn more than $750,000 in cash prizes.
  • Mouthon, Beatrice and Isabelle - (born June 14, 1966) - Triathletes from France. Isabelle was ranked in the top 10 in the world from 1997-1999

  • O'Brien, Eddie and Johnny - (born Dec. 11, 1930) - Both began their baseball careers in 1953 with the Pirates. Eddie began as a utility player in 1953 and 1955 and 1956, but played sporadically as a pitcher his final two seasons in 1957 and 1958. Johnny also played with Pittsburgh through 1958, but played an additional 56 games with St. Louis and Milwaukee in 1958 and 1959
  • Oudin, Melanie and Katherine - (born Sept. 23, 1991) - Melanie Oudin is one of the rising U.S. female tennis players whose coming out party may have been the 2009 U.S. Open in which she advanced to the quarterfinals at age 17.  Her twin sister is a top-ranked prep star in Marietta, Georiga while Melanie was being home-schooled and turned professional at a young age. 
  • Papelbon, Joshua and Jeremy - (born June 24, 1983) - Baseball pitchers who were drafted by the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs, respectively, in 2006 and who hope to follow their big brother, Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, to the majors. Joshua had 13 saves in 25 games and 1.86 ERA in 2006 while Jeremy was 4-0 with a 1.83 ERA in his debut season in the minors in 2006.
  • Paris, Courtney and Ashley - (born Sept. 21, 1987) - Female basketball superstars in the making who will be juniors at the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 2007. Courtney (6'4") was the AP NCAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year in '06-07 after averaging a school-record 23.5 points and 15.9 rebounds per game. She already holds 10 NCAA Women's Basketball records. Ashley (6'3") improved her numbers to 7.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Both were Parade, USA Today and McDonald's prep All-Americans. They are the daughters of former NFL defensive end, Bubba Paris
  • Parker, Jack and Bob - (born March 11, 1945) - Jack Parker is the long-time head hockey coach at Boston University and also is that school's Athletic Director. He has coached 2 NCAA championship teams, at least 51 future NHL players and 18 future Olympians
  • Pickler, Diana and Julie - (born Dec. 9, 1987) - World-class heptathlete athletes from Texas who competed collegiately at Washington State University
  • Pouncey, Mike and Maurkice - (born July 24, 1989) - Identical offensive lineman for the University of Florida football team who were each named to the Sophomore All-America Team after helping lead their Gators to the BCS National Championship game against dad of twins Bob Stoops and the University of Oklahoma. Mike is the starting right guard and Maurkice (his middle name - his first name is LaShawn) is the starting center. The Pouncey Twins were among the nation's top linemen when recruited out of their Lakeland, Florida high school

  • Ratiwatana, Sonchat and Sanchai - (born Jan. 23, 1982) - A rising duo in the men's tennis doubles rankings, these Thai twins have captured more than a dozen titles around the world, including an ATP doubles title in Thailand in 2007
  • Recht, Ann and Claire - Middle blockers for the American University Women's Volleyball team, the Recht Twins (originally from Canby, Oregon) are also the world's tallest female twins at either 6'7" or perhaps 6'8" (the American University web site volleyball roster lists the twins at 6'8"). Led American to 25-7 record in the fall of 2006, including appearance in NCAA Tournament
  • Renshaw, Ernest and Willie - (born Jan. 3, 1861) - Early tennis legends, Willie Renshaw won a record 7 Wimbledon singles titles and also won 7 doubles titles with his brother
  • Rideout, Blaine and Wayne - Track & Field stars who teamed with fellow twins Elmer and Delmer Brown to set world record (twins or non-twins!) in sprint medley relay at 1938 Melrose Games; Rideout twins attended University of North Texas. Wayne later became a long-time trainer in Texas who was voted to several trainer Hall of Fames. Blaine is in the NAIA Track Hall of Fame
  • Rozenthal, Maurice and Francois - (born June 20, 1975) - International Hockey stars who both played for France in 1998 and 2002 Winter Olympics
  • Ryan, Rex and Rob - (born Dec. 13, 1962) - NFL assistant coaches who each have won a Super Bowl ring (Rex in 2001 with Baltimore where he is a DL coach, and Rob in 2002 with New England where he was a LB coach).   • Saul, Rich and Ron - Offensive linemen who played in the NFL from 1970-81. Rich played all 12 of his seasons with the Los Angeles Rams. Ron played for the Houston Oilers from 1970-1975, and the Washington Redskins from 1976-1981. They also had an older brother named Bill who was a linebacker from 1962-1970 for four different teams
  • Scheepstra, Maartje - Dutch ice hockey star who won a medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics. She was born in 1980 in Irian Jaya in an African tribe (the Yali) that felt twins were the sign of the devil. She was adopted by a Dutch family shortly after her birth. Maartje's twin died at age 3
  • Sedin, Henrik and Daniel - (born Sept. 26, 1980) - Swedish hockey star twins who both play for Vancouver Canucks. Helped their native Sweden earn the Gold Medal in hockey in the 2006 Olympics in Turin. Twins who have played hockey together their entire lives, they ended the 06-07 season separated by just four points in their NHL careers (Daniel 306 points, Henrik 302)
  • Serwanga, Wasswa and Kato - Twin brothers who played collegiate ball at different schools. Kato Serwanga played collegiately at UCLA, and was a cornerback in the NFL with New England (1998-2000) and Washington (2001). Wasswa Serwanga went to the University of California, and was a defensive back with San Francisco in 1999 and Minnesota in 2000
  • Shannon, Joe and Red - (born Feb. 11, 1895) - The Shannons were the first set of twins to play for the same Major League Baseball team - the Boston Braves in 1915. Joe Shannon only played that single season for Boston, but Red had a longer and more successful career playing an additional six seasons for four more teams
  • Shoener, Herb and Hal - Twins who played in the NFL at the same time in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Hal played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1948-1950 as an end (San Francisco was in the AAFC in 1948 and 1949 and joined the NFL in 1950). Herb also was a defensive end, playing for the Redskins in 1948 and 1949
  • Sowers, Josh and Jeremy - (born May 5, 1983) - Identical twins who were both outstanding amateur baseball players (Jeremy at Vanderbilt and Josh at Yale). Both played several years of minor league baseball

  • Strange, Curtis and Allen - (born Jan. 30, 1955) - Curtis is a 17-time PGA tour winning golfer who won back-to-back U.S. Opens in 1988 and 89. Now playing on the Champions Tour and a 2007 inductee into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Allen played briefly on the PGA Tour
  • Sundstrom, Patrik and Peter - (born Dec. 14, 1961) - Patrik played 10 seasons in the NHL from 1982-92 for Vancouver and New Jersey, scoring 588 points (219 goals, 319 assists). Peter, the younger twin by 20 minutes, played for the New York Rangers, Vancouver and New Jersey Devils from 1983-90. They played together as teammates for the Devils in part of the 1989-90 sesaon to become the second set of twins to play on the same NHL team
  • Sutter, Rich and Ron - (born Dec. 2, 1963) - Twins who played long careers in the NHL and were part of a hockey-playing family as four other Sutter brothers also played in the NHL. Rich played in the NHL from 1982-95 and scored 315 points, Ron played in the NHL from 1982-2001 and totaled 533 points. Ron is also the dad of twin daughters, Madisen and Reigen

T-U-V

  • Tabor, Phil and Paul - Twin NFL linemen but on different sides of the ball. Phil was a defensive lineman with the New York Giants for four seasons (1979-1982). Paul played just one season in the league, seeing some time both at center and at guard with the Chicago Bears in 1980.
  • Taylor, Donnell and Ronnell - (born July 26, 1982) - The Taylor Twins played collegiate basketball at UAB and Donnell has played two seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards where he is a teammate with another twin, Jarvis Hayes. Unlike the Hayes Twins, the Taylor Twins are still trying to join the elite list of twins to both play in the NBA as Ronnell plays in the NBA's development league
  • Thomas, Charles and Carl - (born Oct. 3, 1969) - One of five sets of twins to each play professional basketball in the NBA, Carl played parts of three seasons (1991-92 and then again during 1996-97 and 97-98 seasons) with four different teams, Golden State, Cleveland, Sacramento and Orlando, playing in 63 NBA Games. Charles' NBA career was even briefer, just 22 games with the Detroit Pistons during the 1991-92 season
  • Thompson, Catrina and Christian - (born Sept. 13, 1984) - Three-time collegiate All-Americans in Women's Tennis at the University of Notre Dame, these Thompson Twins do not play music, however
  • Thorpe, Jim and Charlie - (born May 28, 1888) - Jim Thorpe is considered one of the greatest athletes in modern history and was an Olympic gold medalist in the 1912 Olympics in pentathlon and decathlon as well as professional athlete in the NFL, MLB and basketball. His twin brother Charlie died of pneumonia at age 9. A career .252 hittier in the majors for parts of five seasons, Jim Thorpe was better-known for his football career in which he led the (pre-NFL) Canton Bulldogs to championships in 1916, 1917 and 1919. Thorpe died virtually penniless on March 28, 1953.
  • Tietjen, Jennifer and Margaret - (born July 14, 1977) - Professional women's soccer players who played together collegiately at UConn. Jennifer played for Philadelphia and Margaret for San Diego in the now-defunct WUSA
  • Torres, Jorge and Ed - (born Aug. 22, 1980) - Distance runners who both now run professionally after enjoying productive amateur careers. Jorge won the 5000 Meters at the 2002 NCAA Championships as an undergrad at the University of Colorado and also won the 10,000 Meters at the 2006 USA Championships. Ed also competed with his twin at Colorado and helped lead the Buffs to the 2001 NCAA Cross Country Championship
  • Van Arsdale, Dick and Tom - (born Feb. 22, 1943) - Long-time NBA players (1965-77) and executives who played their final NBA season together in 1977 as teammates in Phoenix. Tom scored 14,232 points in his 12 NBA seasons and never made the NBA playoffs. Dick did slightly better with 15,079 points in his dozen years in the NBA. Dick has also served as the Phoenix Suns' GM, Head Coach and Sr. Exec. VP of Player Personnel
  • Velasco, Roel and Mansueto - (born June 26, 1972) - Boxers from The Phillipines who each won medals in the same event, Light Flyweight, in different Olympics. Roel won the Bronze Medal in 1992 in Barcelona, while Mansueto earned the Silver Medal four years later in Atlanta. In both Olympics, the Velasco Twins finish represented The Phillipines only medal
  • Vilagos, Penny and Vicky - Canadian Synchronized Swimmers who won a Silver Medal in 1992 Olympics behind fellow twins Sarah and Karen Josephson

W-X-Y-Z

  • Waugh, Steven and Mark - (born June 2, 1965) - Reknowned Cricket-playing twins, now both retired. Mark does TV commentary and Steve was recognized as Australian of the Year in 2004
  • Wear, Travis and David - Highly-regarded prep basketball players from Huntington Beach, CA (Mater Dei HS) who have each committed to play their college basketball at the University of North Carolina. The twins are each 6'10" and the sons of former European basketball player, David Wear Sr
  • Weaver, Floyd, Lloyd and Troy - (born Jan. 27, 1964) - Professional Boxing triplets. All three fought in different age groups (1985-2001) even fought together on the same card in one night
  • Whittaker, Jim and Louie - Jim was the first American to climb Mt. Everest (1963). His twin brother Louie is also a well-known mountain climber
  • Williams, Ricky and Cassie - (born May 21, 1977) - Ricky is an NFL star running back (Miami) and 1998 Heisman Trophy winner (from the University of Texas) who has had off-field troubles and suspensions
  • Wongluekiet, Aree and Naree - (born May 1, 1986) - Aree tied for 10th at the 2000 LPGA Nabico Championship to become the youngest amateur to finish in the top-10 in an LPGA event
  • Wurtele, Rhoda and Rhona (born Jan. 21, 1922) - Women's skiing pioneers from Canada who were among their country's first female Olympians. Members of both USA and Canada Skiing Hall of Fames
  • Xiaoshuang, Li and Dashuang - (born Nov. 1, 1973) - Olympic Gymnastics--Li won the all-around Gold Medal at the 1996 Olympics
